Gr.7-8 "Yearbook photo" printmaking self-portraits

Students learned the linocut printmaking technique to help understand the difference between positive and negative space. They are required to think through which parts of the linoleum surface they need to cut away and which parts to leave behind.

We also studied about Pop Art in this unit and its influences on society and culture of the time, and its impact on our lives today. In relation to this unit's theme of "Connecting with My Community," students can use the printmaking technique to help create artwork that can be produced and distributed in multiples to impact our school community.
